Democratic Party of Georgia Responds to Brian Kemp’s Re-Election Campaign Launch

July 10, 2021

Today, vulnerable incumbent Brain Kemp officially launched his campaign to rewrite his disastrous record of failing Georgians on every issue, from health care to COVID-19. Worried about a messy GOP primary, he is already on the defensive with ads on Fox News in preparation for what is sure to be a race-to-the-right that completely ignores the needs of working Georgians.

Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement:

“With members of his own party rebuking him and his approval ratings among voters shaky at best, Brian Kemp is standing on thin ice from left to right as he prepares for a messy primary and an even tougher general election. Brian Kemp has done nothing but take Georgia backwards with divisive policies during his tenure as governor, and he has lost the trust of Georgians as a result. From our state’s bungled COVID-19 response to the racist voter suppression law rammed through the legislature, Brian Kemp has put his unpopular partisan politics ahead of the rights and wellbeing of working Georgians at every turn, and voters are fed up.

“As he hits the campaign trail to defend this disastrous record, Georgia Democrats will be holding him accountable and reminding voters just how much he has failed our state. In 2020, Georgia voters showed they are tired of Republican failed Republican policies and ready for new leadership. In 2022, we look forward to sending Brian Kemp into early retirement and electing a Democratic governor who will truly represent the people of Georgia.”
