Democratic Party of Georgia Recognizes Ninth Anniversary of DACA

June 15, 2021

Today, on the ninth anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the Democratic Party of Georgia is recognizing the immense contributions of DACA recipients in Georgia and renewing its commitment to advocating on behalf of all DACA recipients, Dreamers, and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders.

In Georgia, DACA has allowed more 20,640 Dreamers – young people who came to the United States as minors – to come forward, pass a background check, and live and work legally in the United States. These 20,000+ DACA recipients live in every corner of our state and collectively hold an estimated spending power of $747.5 million each year.

“Dreamers are essential parts of the fabric of communities across Georgia, and the DACA program is vital to ensuring they can live and thrive in our state without fear or uncertainty,” said Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia. “While Trump and Republicans have tried to politicize and destroy DACA – despite its broad support among Americans across the political spectrum – Democrats are committed to fixing our broken immigration system and creating a permanent solution for Dreamers. Today and every day, we are proud to stand alongside DACA recipients, Dreamers, and TPS holders in the continued fight for crucial protections and a pathway to citizenship.”
