Democratic Party of Georgia Marks Beginning of Black History Month

February 1, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, released the following statement in celebration of Black History Month:

“Today we kick off Black History Month, a time to celebrate the rich history and culture of Black Georgians and Black Americans across the country. This month, we celebrate the achievements of the innumerable Black leaders, trailblazers, scholars, artists, activists, and innovators who have shaped and continue to shape the fabric of our nation.

“Black History Month is a celebration, but it’s also a call to action. Georgia Democrats recognize that history is not static – it continues to be written every day through our policy choices. This month and every month, it is incumbent upon us to make choices that advance racial justice and equality, spread opportunity, and make the present worthy of celebration during Black History Months to come. Black History Month is one month of the year, but Georgia Democrats are committed to advancing equality, rooting out injustice, and uplifting Black Georgians every single day.”
