Corrupt David Perdue: Dismissing Threat of Climate Crisis While Enjoying Protected Beachfront Mansion

December 16, 2020

ATLANTA — To continue highlighting Senator David Perdue’s corruption, today the Democratic Party of Georgia dives into Perdue’s dangerous record of rejecting the threat of climate change and opposing key efforts to address the crisis–– all while simultaneously enjoying his gated beachfront mansion’s protection from the effects of climate change, which he refuses to acknowledge.

As sea-level rise accelerated over the past few years, Perdue’s exclusive community constructed an expensive system of sea walls in an effort to protect homes like his lavish 9,000 square foot mansion and gird the property from the ravages of climate change. Meanwhile, Perdue has been an “outspoken climate denier,” urging President Trump to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords and voting against a Senate resolution that affirmed that climate change is real and that human activities contribute to it.

While Perdue is “enjoying” his protected home, 99 percent of the properties just a twenty minute drive from Perdue’s mansion are in flood zones, and many of Georgia’s coastal communities are at grave risk.

“Perdue’s effort to disregard science with Georgia lives at risk, while enjoying the protection of his gated home, is the epitome of corruption and dishonesty,” said Braxton Brewington, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “This is yet another example of Perdue looking out for himself while leaving hardworking Georgians to weather a crisis alone.”
