Democratic Party of Georgia Statement on Congressional Investigation of Voter Suppression in 2018 Elections

ATLANTA – Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Jamie Raskin, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, announced that they would be investigating reports of the serious problems that affected Georgians’ abilities to exercise their right to vote in 2018.

Democratic Party of Georgia Chairwoman Nikema Williams issued the following statement in response:

“We are grateful for our Congressional leaders’ commitment to fully investigate the unprecedented challenges faced by Georgia voters in the 2018 election, perpetuated by Georgia Republicans’ continued efforts to enact an insecure and unfair election system. The right to vote is absolutely foundational to our democracy, and  we will never stop fighting until every Georgian can be assured that their voice is heard and their vote counted. This investigation should be a lesson for every vote suppressor: the people are watching, and you will be brought to justice.”
