Chair Nikema Williams announces Talk of the Party – DPG’s newest resource for supporters
By Nikema Williams, DPG Chair
When I was elected Chair, I promised to build our party by engaging voters all year round, because we know democracy doesn’t start and stop on Election Day. In my first month, I’m excited to share that we are already making progress, from helping mobilize supporters for special elections (including MARTA expansion in Gwinnett), to announcing the single biggest investment in our grassroots program through the DNC’s Organizing Corps 2020.
Together, we watched Georgia’s own Stacey Abrams as she delivered the Democratic response to the State of the Union. We’ve supported our strong Democratic Caucuses in the House and Senate as they continue the fight in the General Assembly for fair elections, against discrimination, and for finally expanding Medicaid in Georgia. We’ve called out voter suppression, while continuing to set the precedent for Voter Protection programs for state parties across the nation.
We know that Georgia is the battleground state for 2020 – and so does the rest of the country. As we prepare for next year’s presidential and Senate races, we are already seeing national Democrats who want to put in the work to win, because they know we are closer than ever to turning Georgia blue.
However, our Party’s work doesn’t begin and end with winning elections. You – our supporters, and our greatest resource – are what keep the Party strong. We want to keep you involved in our fight, with all the information you need to be an advocate in your own community and keep up the battle for our Democratic values.
Today, I’m pleased to announce our newest resource to keep Georgia Democrats apprised of all the latest news with DPG: the Talk of the Party blog. Every month, we’ll update you on our latest work, and give you an inside look into why and how you can get engaged on the issues that matter.
Here’s a preview of what you might see on the blog:
Educational posts on the resources available to advocates, local parties, and potential Democratic candidates
Updates on what’s happening in state and local government, and how our leaders are fighting for you
An inside look at the goings-ons of our voter protection and field programs
Inspiring spotlights on the stories of our state and local Democrats
Reports from the field, as we meet with Democrats across the state who are already mobilizing for 2020
To stay updated on our work, be sure to subscribe to Talk of the Party now, and let us know your thoughts. We can’t wait to hear from you.
As you can see, we have a lot of work ahead – but I’m excited to share it with you.
