Dear All,

Happy autumn!  The caucus has been busy all over the state with appearances at Athens Pride and Savannah Pride.  The Savannah Pride was fabulous and fun.  We picked up 75 new members and registered 25 new voters.

Last Saturday, Rep. Rashad Taylor spoke to us about his coming out experiences earlier this year.  His decision to come out took courage, and made him the only and first African American openly  gay male state representative.  Simone Bell is the first openly LGBT AA state representative.  We are proud of them both.

Next Wednesday, October 5th at DPG headquarters (763 Trabert Ave. NW, Atlanta GA 30318) at 6:30 p.m.,  we will be having a meet and greet event with wine and appetizers.  All our caucus members, friends and allies are invited to attend.  The event is free.

Also, we will be manning a booth at Pride Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th and marching in the parade.  Volunteers are needed from 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. both days.  If you are interested, please let me know the times you prefer and I’ll get you signed up. Please email Volunteer@GeorgiaDemocrat.org to volunteer.

Finally, we will be marching in the parade behind our new LGBT caucus banner.  Please come out and march with us!  The assembly time is 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the Atlanta Civic Center parking lot. Parking will be an issue, so you may want to take Marta to the Civic Center Station.  For more detailed information on Atlanta Pride, go to www.atlantapride.org

Looking forward to seeing you all next week.

George Johnson
LGBT Caucus Chair
