Staff Reaction to the State of the Union Address
Here's what our Democratic Party of Georgia staff thought
about the State of the Union speech:
Obama mentioned that shovel ready projects in Florida were underway. Why hasn't Georgia state leadership been able to get itself together to identify shovel ready projects so that its citizens can return to the path of employment? – Natasha Patel, County Affairs.
I am continually impressed by our President's fortitude and focus on the best interests of the American people. Thank you President Obama for this call to action to our elected officials to put aside partisan issues and focus on serving the citizens who have elected them. - Perri Eichenlaub, Canvassing
A terrific speech that highlighted the perils of obstructionism and the need to move forward. The most telling moment was when the entire Republican side of the chamber stayed seated as the President called for a fee on banks to repay the bailout money they borrowed from American taxpayers. For all their rhetoric at tea party rallies, Republicans proved that they still care more about Wall Street than Main Street. – Chris Harrison, Technology
The President set forth a bold plan to end our partisan gridlock and get this country back to work. I hope the Republicans were listening. - Don Weigel, Georgia State House Democratic Caucus
The President really cares about the middle class. I felt like he was talking about problems that I deal with every day. ‘No one should go broke because they go to college’ was a great reminder that the middle class still needs help. – Eric Gray, Communications
My grandfather was a small business owner who worked with hard-working American families. He owned a furniture store that gave credit to people that other businesses wouldn't. Later I found out from those customers how much it meant to them to be able to get their first washer & dryer, bed, or sofa.
I felt like President Obama's speech was talking to those working class Americans that these partisan politics have forgotten about. - Heather Hayes, Call Center
